Ius scholae, Tajani insists: “I want to convince the allies”. Salvini freezes him: “It will never pass”

"For the ius italiae I would like to convince our allies , going into the merits of our proposal, the referendum proposal was for 5 years, we are for ten years. In the meantime in Parliament we are making the justice and fiscal reform, then we will explain to our allies the goodness of our proposal". This was said by Antonio Tajani , Minister of Foreign Affairs, guest of the Forum in Masseria.

The leader of Forza Italia continued: "You don't get respect if you insult a Muslim, you have to be strong in your identity, the fear of being absorbed is a sign of weakness". But a note from the League arrived shortly after, reiterating its opposition: "We invite our friend Antonio Tajani to shelve any controversy over the citizenship reform. It will never pass, it is not included in the center-right program, it was even rejected in the recent referendum promoted by the left. Let's look ahead, the country does not need a summer of useless controversy: we have the duty to implement the program that convinced Italians to trust us".

Tajani explained that the ius Italiae "is not the number one emergency" and saying so does not mean "backtracking". A "modern centre-right must take charge of this problem, the left must not do it with lax proposals", furthermore integration "is part of the program".

However, the deputy prime minister continued, "far be it from me to put the government in difficulty, let alone take the slightest action that could put the center-right in difficulty, I have inherited Berlusconi's legacy". Am I willing to pass the proposal with the opposition's votes? I would like to convince our allies by going into the merits".
